Why Renewable Energy

caring for the environment

It’s a Fact

The undeniable change in our climate is now a fact. To this end, new sources of energy that are naturally replenished need to be considered.

Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources—such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat—which are renewable. In 2006, about 18% of global final energy consumption came from renewables, with 13% coming from traditional biomass, such as wood-burning. Hydroelectricity was the next largest renewable source, providing 3% (15% of global electricity generation), followed by solar hot water/heating, which contributed 1.3%. Modern technologies, such as geothermal energy, wind power, solar power, and ocean energy together provided some 0.8% of final energy consumption.

The Future

There is no doubt that renewable, sustainable sources of energy have to be embraced. Governments are now recognising this and are awarding substantial contracts to Local Aurhorities to ensure renewable technologies are providing ever increasing amounts of heating and hot water.

A recent survey found that househunters will pay up to an extra £10,000 for a sustainable friendly house.
